InstaFriday

Woohoo! It’s FRIDAY! We made it! We survived!

Thanksgiving was awesome. We hosted again this year. I love hosting. We don’t have a dining room or a very big kitchen. We just have a little breakfast nook with a 4-seater table. We pushed the living room furniture back and set up two long folding tables and made them pretty. It was a really great time with everyone. :)

The older we get, the more and more my sisters and I all look alike. It’s kinda freaky!

Macy was really excited about all of the attention she got during the weekend. Snuggles-a-plenty.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving unless everyone slept off their tryptophan! There’s always gotta be someone passed out on the floor, right?

We did a little Black Friday shopping as usual. Not a fan of stores opening on Thanksgiving day. Come on, people! The rest of Friday was spent by napping and starting a little on Christmas decorations. I was so tired from Thanksgiving prep and shopping at all hours, I didn’t get too much done.

I had to move out the end table by the sofa so the tree would fit. Macy then realized that the arm of the couch is a really great perch without that silly table and lamp. I walked into the living room and she was just sitting there….staring out the window. She cracks me up.

Actually decorating the tree got pushed off a little longer than normal. My grandmother was rushed to the hospital on Sunday night (She’s home now and on the mend, praise God! Still praying for full healing and recovery!) and then Monday was car buying day. Tuesday I was just too dang exhausted from the week’s events to do anything. Purchasing a car takes FOR-EV-ER. I thought that since we were going pre-owned that it wouldn’t be as big of a deal. Good heavens. They tried to sell us everything under the sun. There is no reason that buying a car should take more time than closing on a house (!!!).

Anywho – by Wednesday we were ready to drink a cup of cheer and get those ornaments on the tree. Cup of cheer of choice this evening was a peppermint mocha in our Christmas penguin mugs. It was fabulous. We turned off the overhead lights and just left on a couple of lamps and the tree lights. We turned on some Sufjan Stevens Christmas music (my fave) and got to ornamenting. This is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. I’ll show you my tree next week! :)

And here’s one for a few Friday giggles. We have a Macy look-alike ornament. I showed it to her and she sniffed it and stared it down. She gave it the “What manner of beast is this???” look. Sister cracks me up. She definitely keeps us entertained around these parts!

Where are you on your decorating? I just have to put the finishing touches on a few things inside, and we’ll decorate the outside of the house tomorrow. Have a FANSTASTIC weekend, everyone! See ya on Monday! :)

Christmas Around the Blogosphere

Happy Thursday, y’all! I’m so glad this week is coming to a close! It’s been long one for sure. This weekend I plan on wrapping up our Christmas prep around the house. I’m excited to be pretty much done with everything so I’m able to just enjoy the season!

There’s been so much great Christmas inspiration in blogland lately, and I thought it would be great to highlight a few of my favorites.

Advent officially starts this upcoming Sunday. I’ve mentioned before that we’ll be observing the season of Advent this year with a Jesse Tree. There are a lot of awesome resources out there, and they all vary. We’re using Ann Voskamp’s version (love her) and we start today! I’m so excited to start this tradition for our family and reflecting on the greater story of redemption. This is such a great resource, because you don’t really have to do anything. She has put together some great readings, and you can even print out the ornaments. For FREE! I’m doing a combo of store-bought and handmade ornaments. I’ll show y’all what I’ve got later on.

Here’s a genius idea! Mixie Sticks! They’re kinda like Pixi Sticks, but even better! Tikkido shared this awesome tutorial and recipe to make little flavor mix-ins with paper straws for hot cocoa or coffee. As if paper straws weren’t already cute enough. I’m swooning. This would be perfect for a Christmas party or to keep at a hot chocolate station.

Destri over at The Mother Huddle compiled a fantastic list of 20 easy, handmade gifts. If there is still someone on your list you can’t quite figure out, or if you need more ideas for teachers or neighbors, this is the place to go. There are several items on this list that I will be whipping up soon!

Once you make these awesome gifts, you’re going to need cute ways to package them up. Kelly at Live Laugh Rowe has a great tutorial for these polymer clay gift tags. These are adorable! I’m currently obsessed with anything woodsy. These could easily be reused as ornaments. The red bakers twine is the perfect cherry on top.

What Christmas projects will you be working on this weekend? Is anyone else celebrating Advent?

Have a great day, y’all! Friday is coming! :)

Life. It happens.

We had a fantastic Thanksgiving! We had both sides of the family over for Thanksgiving dinner, watched the Texans do a little more butt kicking (not without giving us all heart attacks), did a little wedding planning, a lot of laughing, too much eating, and a little shopping. Our celebrating was sandwiched in-between both cars going out of commission (one in the body shop due to a minor accident, the other biting the dust for good) and a loved one in the hospital.

Needless to say, things have been a bit busy and crazy over here. I’m hoping to be back to normal (blog-wise) in the next day or two. We squeezed in a little Christmas decorating over the weekend, and I’m itching to show y’all how things are turning out. (It is the most wonderful time of year!)

Thanks for your understanding and patience as it’s been only crickets over here the last week. (Also…how did another week already pass?!?). God has been so good to us, even in struggles. I’m thankful for all of you!

I hope your Thanksgiving was absolutely wonderful. Did anyone do anything special to celebrate, or score any great deals? Do share!

Have a lovely day!

Thankful.

Happy Turkey Eve! First of all, welcome to all of my new readers, and thank you to The Daily Post for featuring Like a Saturday! I hope y’all enjoy your time here and leave feeling inspired.

I am getting giddy over celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow. I have so much to be thankful for, and I love setting aside a whole day to just reflect on this. God has been so good to us. Even in our struggles, I see His hand in it all. His plan is greater than mine, and he carries me through it all. I serve a very good God!

I am so thankful for the blessing of my husband. He is a hard worker, has a gentle spirit, loves me with all his might, washes the dishes and helps fold the laundry, keeps me laughing on a daily basis, and is pretty darn good looking on top of it all. Along with him came my fantastic in-laws. I am a blessed woman. When you marry your spouse, you inherit a second family, and mine is the best. They love on me so well and have raised two godly men. I am so thankful for how they raised Tim.

My first family is also the best! I have two incredible parents who taught me how to follow Jesus. My sisters are my best friends in the whole world. It’s awesome to get along so well with your siblings and actually want to hang out with each other. My sisters are beautiful and they are strong women of God. They are hilarious, and life with the three of us is never dull.

My parents after their wedding. How cute are they?

Trouble. Sisters + my awesome future brother-in-law

I’m thankful for the amazing friends in my life who are more like family. I’m thankful for the roof over my head, for never going hungry. I am thankful that we both have good jobs in a time when jobs are harder to come by. I’m thankful for my sweet pup, coffee, and my warm bed.

Today we will start preparing our Thanksgiving meal and set the table for our feast. Tomorrow, we’ll all gather in our home and laugh and celebrate and enjoy each other’s presence. While we are celebrating, feasting and enjoying…I must pause. I can’t help but think of those who are without….without a home. without food. without a mom or a dad. without friends. missing a loved one. feeling alone. feeling lost. I want to help them all. I want to bring them a warm, loving home. I want to make sure they never go hungry. I want to love on all of the little ones who are alone. I want to let the mom who lost her son cry on my shoulder. All I can do is pray. I pray that God will provide for their every need. I pray that they will feel His love in a new or tangible way. God is good. His mercy endures forever.

I hope you all have an enjoyable, memorable, reflective day go thanksgiving. I know many of us will be running out to shop and fight the crazy crowds this weekend. Try to keep your focus on the things of this world that will not fade. Be kind to those around you.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for all of you who pop on by to read! I shall return next week with all kinds of Christmasy goodness!
