I have to admit, I’m kinda glad to see 2012 go. Not that a new year really changes anything, but the mental clean slate will be good. 2012 was a year that started and ended with challenges, and was just straight up busy in-between.
I was blessed to be able to leave my stressful, draining job to start a new, incredible job. That allowed me the extra time and energy to start this little ol’ blog! I am so glad that I did! It as given me a creative outlet, and I’ve “met” such amazing people in the process! I am so thankful for ALL of you who choose to stop by my corner of the blogosphere. I have fun things in store for you this next year!
In just the last 6 months, I have seen a lot of change and growth on the blog. It’s completely embarrassing to look back at early photos on here….eeek. Not that I’m a master photographer now, but things have definitely improved. I’m learning so much, and I love it!

I hope you all have a fun, safe night of celebrating and a very, VERY Happy New Year!
I’m linking up this week’s phone pics at Life Rearranged. You can find me on Instagram @likeasaturday.
Is it already time for InstaFriday again? This week kinda flew by {and I’m actually kinda glad}.
The hubs and I took in a football game on Sunday, courtesy of his company’s sponsorship {that he designs the ads for}. We rode up in the elevator with one of the players and then totally creeped on him. He’s not even that well known since he’s just a special teams player {so he has exactly one job to do}. We watched him stuff 3 plates full of fajitas into his face prior to game time. {And he was a really nice, polite guy}.
My sisters and almost bro-in-law came over Sunday night to hang out and I may have bribed them with cookies and such to help us move some furniture around. {You can see a little sneak peek here to what’s going on in our living room}. There may have been singing into the vacuum.
Christmas Eve = good, country breakfast. And the people said AMEN. It was delicious. We intended to head about at 9:30, but didn’t make it out until 11:00. Me: I don’t think we’re morning people. Tim: What was your first clue?
I love this movie so much. It still makes me cry. It’s just so great. I watched this while I wrapped the last couple of gifts and enjoyed some down time before the festivities began.
Christmas #1 was spent on Christmas Eve at my mom and dad’s house. We ate too much food and had too much fun. It was a great night.
Here is the world’s worst Instagram pic of one of the world’s greatest Christmas gifts. This is Mr. Panda…my new necklace that was handcrafted by my sweet friend, Rachel at Poppy and Fern. This picture doesn’t do it any justice. She is so talented! You can visit Mr. Panda and a whole zoo full of animals {and more!} here. You won’t regret it!
Christmas #2 was just the 2 of us and Macy on Christmas morning. We typically do stockings first, have breakfast {which consists of breakfast casserole and poppy seed bread}, and then open gifts.
Speaking of stockings….we had more than we have creatures. We are spoiled.
Santa brought Macy a new toy. This stuffed dog is longer than she is and it’s hilarious to see her carry it around the house.
The aftermath. I seriously scares me just a bit that the two of us make this mess on our own…..we don’t even have kids. What will happen when we do? We’ll have to dig ourselves out.
I hope you all had an awesome Christmas. I’m celebrating Christmas #3 with some of my best girlfriends tonight and Christmas #4 with my husband’s parents tomorrow {our Christmas do-over since his mom got sick }. Did your Christmas go as planned? Are you sad that the celebrations are winding down, or are your ready to move on to a new month and a new year?
Have a great weekend and a happy, safe new year! I’ll be back later next week with a little recap of the year, and tips on how to tear down Christmas without {completely} losing your mind.
I know it’s been quiet over here, but that’s just because it’s been like Christmas all week long! Sometimes you have to decide what you will make your priorities. I bumped up Christmas and family fun to the top of the list and it’s been wonderful! My sisters wrapped up their semester and they’ve been home. I love it when we’re all in the same city!
I’ve been majorly slacking in the Instagram/InstaFriday department. This last month has been INSANE. Seriously. It’s just been one thing after another. I’m ready to have some peaceful days where nothing out of the ordinary comes up.
My grandma spent 2 extended stays in the hospital, and then wound up with the flu. Poor thing. I decorated this little tree for her so that when she got home from her second stay, she’d have a little Christmas cheer at home. I found the little tree {pre-lit!} at Walmart for $10 and then raided the mini-tree section at Hobby Lobby. I stuck to a red, whiten and silver theme with some ice crystals, candy cane hearts, and snowflakes. I had fun putting this one together.
I am totally loving our hot cocoa station. I’m thinking it will stick around for the rest of winter. {Assuming we have a winter. We’ve only had a handful of cold days around here so far.}
Last week was Christmas party week. We had Tim’s office party Saturday night. I must say, I had the best looking date in the house. Oh my word I love this man.
Sunday morning we had some good Texas thunderstorms. I love it. I snuggled into the couch with Macy and a cup of coffee and enjoyed the light of the tree before we headed out for Christmas with my dad’s side of the family. {Grandparents and cousins}. It was so nice to be able to slow down and rest. I was really needing it.
This week has been full of family fun {and I’ve been a horrible Instagramer}. We enjoyed a basketball game together on Wednesday, and went to see Home Alone at the theater last night. Today I get to go to my sister’s first wedding dress fitting {!!!!!!!!} and then the rest of the weekend will consist of lots of baking and soaking up the last few days of the Christmas season.
I hope you are all having a joyful and blessed season. It will probably continue to be pretty quiet around here for the next week, but I have lots of exciting things planned for the new year!
Happy Tuesday to you all! I hope you’re getting merry and jolly and having a cup of cheer. Can you believe there is only a week until Christmas? How in the world did that happen?? Remember when you were young, how it used to feel like for-ev-er until Christmas would arrive? Now, you blink your eyes and it is gone. {Am I getting old?}. This is the time where I feel like I have to try to squeeze in every bit of Christmas that I can before it is all over. I’m also trying to be realistic and just enjoy the season and enjoy my family and friends.
I thought I would create a post to serve as grand central station for all things Like a Saturday Christmas home – a sort of home tour. There may be a few more things that pop up here, unless {of course} I get totally swept up into the joys of the season and don’t get around to it. That’s definitely a possibility too. I’m trying to give myself a little extra grace about what does and doesn’t get finished in a 24 hour period {trying is the key word there!}. If only I could clone myself a la Steve Urkle and Stephan. Her name would be Rachelle, and instead of being a cooler version of myself, she would do all of the dirty work while I played, and decorated, and crafted, and sipped coffee all day…..but I digress.
I hope you are thoroughly enjoying yourself this Christmas season and getting in lots of joy and family. I know we’re all battling heavy hearts due to last week’s events, and it sometimes feels harder to celebrate. I think it gives us extra reason to celebrate that our Savior humbled himself to come as a child, born in a barn…..so that he could one day return and save us from all of this evil . O come, o come Emmanuel!
