I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! They’re always too short, aren’t they? I whipped up a quick little project yesterday afternoon and thought I would share it with you today!
I have a stash of vintage jewelry in my hoard of craft supplies. It mostly consists of brooches and clip-on earrings that had been given to me by my Grandma and Great-Grandma. I have seen a few tutorials floating around that involve upcycling vintage earrings or buttons into new pieces of jewelry and decided to try my hand at my own version.
I started by pulling a few pieces of jewelry out of my collection to create a necklace. I chose a brooch to be the center piece of the necklace, and a few earrings to arrange around it. You will also need a scrap of felt, a hot glue gun, a jewelry making pliers set, and a chain, jump rings, and closure for the necklace.
I used the pliers to pull of the clips from the earrings and broach. This was easier than I thought it would be. I just bent the clip back and forth a few times with the pliers until it snapped off. Once I was all set, I played around with a few arrangements and the glued the final one to the piece of felt.
The next step is to trim the felt around the jewelry so that you aren’t able to see it from the front. Then, I hand sewed two jump rings onto the back of the felt to attach the chain to.
Attach your chain and clasp, and you’re all set! This was really easy to put together, and all together only took me about half an hour to complete.
This was the perfect craft project for a lazy Sunday afternoon! It was super easy and I was mostly able to use things I already had. If you don’t happen to have a stash of vintage jewelry in your closet, you can easily find a good amount at thrift stores or garage sales for a good price. You could also use vintage buttons or beads from a vintage necklace or bracelet. The options are endless!
Have a wonderful Monday, everyone!
