A Bee and Her Keeper {Dog and Owner Halloween Costumes}

Me and 80+ blog buddies got together to bring you 80+ DIY Halloween costumes, including my Bee and Bee Keeper costumes! I’m teaming up with Jamie Dorobek and her handmade Halloween costume site, Really Awesome Costumes to bring y’all tons of easy ideas to craft up DIY Halloween costumes for everyone including your pets, family costumes, and even a trunk or treat idea!

Remember that time I decided to throw all dignity out the window and willingly humiliate myself on the internet? Oh…that time is actually now. I actually had a lot of fun putting these costumes together and parading around my yard with  Macy {in August, mind you}. I have no shame.

I present to you, A Bee and Her Keeper.

Dog and Owner Bee and Bee Keeper Halloween costumesWe have a ton of kids that live on our street. Every year for Halloween, we sit on our front porch and pass out candy. Macy cannot handle being left out of the fun, so we put her in costume and take her out with us. The kids get such a big kick out of this friendly little dog dressed up like they are. It is always so much fun! This year, I decided to kick it up a notch and join in on the fun myself. These costumes are seriously easy to make, and could be translated into family costumes with a few tweaks.

Dog bee costumeFor little miss grump’s costumes {seriously…look at that face}, I bought a yellow t-shirt {she is 10 lbs and I got a 12 month size shirt}, a roll of black duct tape, a sheet of glittery white fabric, black pipe cleaners, and a baby headband.

bee costume 1To begin, I taped black stripes onto the body of the t-shirt. You will want to make sure the shirt is a bit loose because the tape will take some of the stretch away.

bee costume 2Next, I traced a wing shape on the back of the glitter fabric and cut out two. I found this fabric near the individual sheets of felt at the craft store. I hot glued each wing to one of the black stripes. For her antennae, I just twisted fuzzy black pipe cleaners to an infant headband and curled the ends.

Dog bumble bee costume Isn’t she a cutie?

My bee keeper costume was even easier to put together. I wore a white painter’s jumpsuit paired with some boots I already had. The painter suits only come in a men’s XL {from what I found at least}. I simply rolled up the leg and arm cuffs to fit my 5’3 self. The crotch of the suit comes down to my knees, and it’s not exactly figure flattering…. but it works. :)

Dog and owner Halloween costumesFor the bee keeper hat and veil, I found a wide brimmed straw hat, a can of white spray paint and a yard of white mesh fabric. I did a quick coat of white spray paint on both sides of the hat. When it was dry, I hot glued the mesh fabric around the underside edge of the hat. Easy as that!
