Home Tour – Master Bedroom

Hello there! I’m continuing the long overdue home tour today with one of my favorite rooms in the house, our master bedroom.

Robin's Egg Blue master bedroom with vintage and industrial accentsI love our bedroom! It is a serene and peaceful getaway with vintage and industrial accents sprinkled throughout. When we bought our blank slate house, this room wasn’t much to look at.

bedroom beforeI loved the pitched ceiling and knew the bed would look great between the two windows. I’ve always been a blue fan, so we chose a pretty robin’s egg blue for the walls. Some people say not to use blue in a bedroom because it’s supposedly depressing. I disagree! I think 1) you can use any color that you love on your walls, and 2) blue is an incredibly calming color, which is perfect for the space where you sleep!

Peaceful Blue Master BedroomThe color we chose is LaFonda Mirage by Valspar. Our Napoleon Dynamite selves may have been slightly influenced by the name….

LaFawnduhWhile the name and color are fantastic, painting this room was an absolute nightmare. It took us a couple of days and about a million and a half cans of paint. The paint wouldn’t go on evenly. You could see visible lines and a discrepancy in the shade. No one wants blotchy walls! We finally got it looking nice and smooth and haven’t touched it since. I have a couple of spots that need touch ups, but I’m terrified to do it. I’m not sure if it was the flat paint that did it {rookie mistake – go eggshell or satin!} or if it was the brand. We’ve steered clear of Valspar since then and then rest of the house is painted with Sherwin Williams paint, but I’ve heard a lot of people love Valspar.

Peaceful Blue Master BedroomOur bedding is from Target. The bird pillow is circa 2009, and the duvet is by Patch NYC circa 2012. The sunburst mirror is a pre-blog DIY.

Peaceful Blue Master BedroomI’m still loving our updated thrift store, milk glass lamps. Our side tables were clearance finds at Hobby Lobby.

Peaceful Blue Master BedroomThis is my absolute favorite part of our bedroom. I have a thing for maps and globes, so I’m totally in love with this 1950’s school map of Africa. The bench is a primitive antique bench that belonged to my grandmother. I topped it with a faux lamb skin from Ikea and a couple of fun pillows.

Peaceful Blue Master BedroomI scored this vintage, industrial fan on Etsy. It was too dang hot at night this summer, but I didn’t want an ugly plastic fan by my bed. I’ve always loved vintage fans and was super excited to find one that works!

Peaceful Blue Master BedroomOur dresser is one of the few horizontal spaces in our home, so I like to switch out the decor from time to time. It’s decorated for fall right now, but it usually looks like this.
