DIY Non-Toxic Air Freshener

Hi there! I hope you are all doing well! I’m dusting off the blogging cob webs and getting back to it. It’s just like riding a bike {after you haven’t slept in 2 months…haha!}.

The last few years, I’ve been working to rid our home of toxic chemicals. I’m even more determined to ditch the chemicals now that we have a little one. I’ve slowly transitioned to all natural cleaning products, then swapped our candles for healthier versions. Now, I’m working on all of those other items we have to keep our home smelling nice. No more plug-ins for us!

DIY Non-Toxic Air FreshenerA while back, I whipped up a batch of safe, chemical-free air fresheners. These are perfect for keeping in the bathrooms or behind your kitchen trash can {or in the bottom of the can under the bag if you’re worried about little fingers getting ahold of it}.

DIY Non-Toxic Air FreshenerAll you need to make your own air fresheners is : small jelly jars, slotted mason jar lids {I found mine at Hobby Lobby}, baking soda, and essential oils in your favorite scents. I used lemon and lavender oils.

DIY Non-Toxic Air FreshenerFirst, scoop a good amount of baking soda into the jelly jars. Next, add 12-15 drops of your favorite essential oil.

DIY Non-Toxic Air FreshenerPlace the original lid onto the jar and give it a good shake to mix the oil with the baking soda.

DIY Non-Toxic Air FreshenerAfter you’ve given it a good shake, place the slotted lid into the lid ring. Save the original lid! You don’t want baking soda flying everywhere when you’re ready for a refresh. Whenever the air freshener starts to lose its scent, you can just add a few more drops to the existing baking soda and give it another shake.

Not only is this a much healthier and safer way to keep your home smelling wonderful, it’s also much more affordable!

Oh baby, baby!

Hi y’all. Yes, I dropped off the face of the planet again…but for the very best reason! Many of you know that my husband and I have been in the midst of the adoption process. Last Wednesday, we got a surprise call….that we had a daughter and could come meet her the very next day!

lucy with flowers 3-9-15 with las logoWe brought our sweet Lucy home on Saturday and we are just so very happy! {and just a smidge tired}. Hopefully I’ll find some time to write more about our story, but I’ll be taking some time away from the blog to dive head first into this crazy adventure called parenthood. I hope to be back soon! :)
