Everything You Ever Wanted {Review & Giveaway}

I was give a copy of this book to review. Affiliate links are included.

I love to read. I used to be a night owl {now, I would kill to be in bed asleep by 9:00} and I would stay up late reading. Nancy Drew…The Babysitters Club….Little Women. You name it! In more recent years, I’ve gotten out of the habit of being a ravenous reader. All of that adulting business has gotten in the way. I’ve really missed it, so I made a goal this year to read 12 books. That may seem like a small goal to many of you, but 1) It’s a lot more than I read last year, and 2) New baby in the house, y’all.

So, with limited reading time these days…I’ve been a little extra picky about what I’m reading. I needs to be something that is really good and will lock me in. Everything You Ever Wanted by Jillian Lauren is just that book.

EYEWCOVERI’m all about non-fiction and love a good memoir. Jillian Lauren has the most interesting and captivating life story. The tagline for her blog is “From member of a harem to a member of the PTA. Yes, really.”. While her previous memoir, Some Girls, covers her life in a harem, this book picks up where she meets her husband, bass player from the band Weezer. Lauren then goes on to tell the stories of losing her best friend to drugs, their struggle with infertility, their journey to adopt their son from Ethiopia, and even their struggles to parent a child with special needs.

DSC_3351-3275222647-OJillian Lauren is beautifully honest with her story. This is a story of second chances. Even if you yourself have not adopted or become a parent, you will find something that you can identify with. Upon finishing, you will feel the hope of overcoming any struggle or obstacle. I highly recommend this book!

How would you like to win your own copy? I’ll be giving away one copy of Everything You Ever Wanted to one lucky winner. Just use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter. Giveaway ends May 11th at midnight.

Partyin’ it up! {Noonday Style}

Psst…This is not a sponsored post. I just really love Noonday, their jewelry and their mission; and I just feel like sharing the fun we had!

This past weekend was such a blast. I got to host my first Noonday Collection trunk show and we had so much fun! This particular show was to do a little fundraising for our adoption. I love having people over to the house and hosting parties. It had been a long time since we were able to do anything like that. Honestly, the last few months have been so busy, I’ve hardly had a chance to see my friends {outside of normal activities like church}. It was so great to carve out a little girl time. We visited and caught up, snacked on some tasty treats and got to try on a bunch of gorgeous jewelry. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Noonday Trunk ShowThey key to hosting a Noonday trunk show is to keep it simple. I was very purposeful in my planning. Even though I love these types of things, it can sometimes be stressful. I’m normally running around getting everything ready until the last possible second, but this time….I was done and ready to go an hour before anyone showed up {!!!}. Miracles do happen! ;)

Noonday Trunk Show - simple, but tasty spreadThere is no need to decorate, because the vibrant colors of the jewelry is enough to make your party feel festive. I planned a simple menu ahead of time. Nothing too fussy. We had cucumber sandwiches, veggies & hummus, fruit skewers, chocolate chip cookies and lemon cupcakes with blackberry frosting.

Fruit Skewers

Veggie and Hummus PlatterI chopped the veggies and fruit and put those plates together the night before. I also made the cucumber sandwich filling that night, but waited to put it on the bread until a couple of hours before the party so the sandwiches wouldn’t be soggy.

Cucumber SandwichesThe hummus and cookies were store bought. There’s no shame in that game!

Chocolate Chip CookiesGood is good. It doesn’t matter if it was made by your hand or another as long as it makes the belly happy, right? So just relieve yourself of the pressure to have homemade everything from scratch. If you do like to cook or bake, pick one or two items and go all out with those.

{Noonday Trunk Show Spread} Lemon Cupcakes with Blackberry Frosting That’s what I did with the cupcakes. I found a great recipe on Pinterest {from Baker by Nature} that I really wanted to try out. I made the cupcakes one evening earlier in the week and froze them. Did you know that you can do that? You can’t even tell the difference. I set them out on the counter the evening before to thaw out, and made the frosting the morning of. These were absolutely delicious! I’ll be making these again during the summer. They’re also really tasted chilled, FYI. :)

To go along with the food, I made my Sparkling Cranberry Lemonade {a fan favorite} and of course, had freshly brewed coffee. I have a stash of mason jars and daisy lids that I bought for my sister’s bridal shower. I have used these over and over for parties. Over time, I spend less money than I would on paper cups and it just seems a little more special.

Noonday Trunk ShowI buy paper straws {or select some from my stash} in coordinating colors. This time, I picked up some black paper flags that you can stick onto the straws and had everyone write their name on them with a chalk pen. Super fun and festive!

Noonday Trunk ShowWe had so much fun that afternoon! We all really enjoyed learning about the mission and history of Noonday and each piece {OK…and trying on all of the amazing jewelry!}. If you are interested in hosting your own trunk show, you can find more info on the Noonday website.

I hope you’ll take a little time to look at their website, read about this amazing company and take a look at their unique jewelry and bags!

Have a great day!

InstaFriday + Miscellany

Happy, happy, happy Friday! I’m so looking forward to this weekend! Time with my sisters and celebrating the wedding of some sweet friends. It’s gonna be great! :)

I did a bit of thrift shopping last weekend and scored 2 of the pretty covered Reader’s Digest books for $1 a piece.

Sunday was “Orphan Sunday”. We had such a sweet time at church praying for vulnerable children and foster and adoptive families in our church {there are a lot! it’s awesome!}. We had a great time at lunch with some of these famillies – many who are a part of our community group. With 7 families at lunch, we had at least 12 foster and adopted kiddos. It was so much fun and awesome to see how these children’s lives have been changed by adoption!

This girl. She needs a lot of attention. How dare I be on Pinterest instead of lovin’ on her! ;)

I will be 100% honest and tell you I bought this wine solely for the name. I didn’t read the bottle. I didn’t even check to see if it would be any good. The name made me laugh, so I bought it. {It was good, though!}

I have so many coffee related Instas. This Anthro mug makes me so happy!

Speaking of Anthro… dear friend Rachel of Poppy and Fern hand stitched some lovely wall art for non other than Anthropologie! What the what! I’m so proud of this girl! Be sure to check it out! It’s online only, and a limited edition type deal, so you’ll have to move quick!

Poppy and Fern for Anthropologie Our friend Robbie Seay is running a Kickstarter campaign and there are only 7 days left! The Robbie Seay Band released their fist installment in a series of 3 albums called “Pslams EP Series” on Noisetrade {you can download the album for free!}. The Kickstarter campaign is for the remaining 2 albums. The first one is seriously great, and I can’t wait for the others!
