InstaFriday + Miscellany

Friiiiidaayyy!!! It’s here! I’ve been looking forward to this day all week long. :) The last two weekends we’ve either been out of town or had out of town guests – both for weddings. When our weekends are full like that, it seems to take me a while to get back into the swing of things. I’m looking forward to our low key weekend – wet and chilly weather from the cool front, a little Christmas crafting, probably at least one nap and you better believe I’m pulling out “You’ve Got Mail this weekend”! What is your weekend looking like? I hope you get a little rest in before the business of the Holiday season!

My husby is so good looking. We spent a few minutes rocking on the porch of one of our favorite BBQ joints. Like a good southerner does. That’s not a grumpy face…it’s a checking sports scores on his phone face. I just have to sneak a photo every now and then, because he’s so cute!

Not only is he cute, but he’s grown immune to my big eyed begging. This is pretty much a normal conversation in our household. I don’t actually want another dog {although tempting when seeing puppy eyes and wrinkles}. It’s just fun to pester. ;) I’m just training him for any future big eyed daughters. Ha!

It’s beginning to look a lot like {Vintage} Christmas! I haven’t actually started decorating yet, but I found a couple of cutie vintage inspired items to add to our existing decor. This is pretty much the extent of my decor shopping this year. Everything else will be something we already own or handmade. I do need to get on the ball with the decorating though, since I need to be finished before December 2nd for some blog related things. Eek!

This is what my drive home looked like yesterday. It looked much freakier than it actually was. It’s hard to tell, but you can see a little peak of light at the bottom. There was a well defined line between light and black clouds running in. This is what we’ll be looking at the next couple of days. I don’t mind since I get to hunker down at home. There will be pajamas, coffee, and crafts. Perfect weekend for this introvert!

I ordered my Christmas cards this week. I’m not very good at card writing — or at least I don’t feel like I am. I love photo cards for this reason. All I have to do is address and stamp the envelopes and get them out the door. It’s a good way for us to say hello and stay in touch with our relatives that are sprinkled all across the country. I love all of these ideas for pretty ways to address envelopes. I’ve always had a fondness for pretty calligraphy, ever since my Momma taught me a bit about it in elementary school.

Vintage Christmas

I’m so enjoying digging through Pinterest to find Vintage Christmas decor and inspiration. This home tour from Mod Vintage Life is a couple of years old, but still so beautiful. You can check out more eye candy on my Merry Christmas! and Vintage Christmas boards.

Have a beautiful weekend, y’all!

Winter Menagerie

How are you doing on this fine Monday? I’m trying to feel Christmas-y, despite our humid 80 degree weather. We went to a Christmas light parade last night. I arrived with straight hair and left with wavy hair and even a few curls. Hello, Christmas in the tropics!

While we will definitely not be having a white Christmas around these parts, I’ve created my own winter wonderland inside. I’ve mentioned before how we don’t have a mantle over our fireplace, so I use the top of our entertainment center for decorating {which will all soon be changing! stay tuned!}.

I fell in love with the mason jar snow globes that Anthropologie had last year {and have since been popping up all over the blogosphere}, so I created my very own winter menagerie using vintage inspired bottle brush trees, vintage plastic deer, and a little faux snow.

I love these sweet little vintage, winter scenes. I’m kinda obsessed with deer in my decor right now, so I’m really enjoying all of these little fellas. I found a package of about 15 or so bottle brush trees on clearance after Christmas last year for about 75 cents {woohoo!} and bought a group of the plastic deer on eBay. Most of the jars and glass containers I already had on hand. I created a cloche by using the glass from an old, ugly clock I found at Goodwill for a couple of bucks {because cloches are expensive!}.

We have a tradition that every year we take a picture of our little family in front of the tree, and then frame it with the year. I saw this at one of my college pastor’s homes when they had a Christmas party at their place for all of us. It was so neat to see how their family changed and grew over the years, and I knew it was a tradition I wanted to start with my own family as well. I’ve placed the ones we’ve collected so far in the center.

Hanging above my mini winter wonderland is my music sheet and pinecone wreath that I made last year. I used paged from an old hymnal to roll up into cones that I hot glued onto a wreath form I cut out of foam core board. I then glued a ring of pine cones in the center and glittered them up a bit. This will carry me over into winter as well.

Are you adding to or changing up your Christmas decor this year, or keeping it the same? It can be expensive to choose a different theme every year, so I like to add and tweak year to year. It’s always exciting to pull out decorations that have memories attached, but just as exciting to create new little scenes.

Have a wonderful Monday, y’all! Expect more Christmas-y goodness from me in the coming days! :)
