Christmas Home Tour {Part One} – and a $500 Giveaway!

Some affiliate links included.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I seriously love Christmas, y’all. We decorated the house a little early this year and I’ve been listening to Christmas music for weeks. I’ve basically turned into Buddy the Elf. Our first Christmas with our baby girl is adding to the excitement for sure!

Carrie from Lovely, etc. invited me to join in on her “A Very Merry Christmas Home Tour” this year, along with 24 other fabulous bloggers. Be sure to check out all of the other tours for more Christmas inspiration. Their links are at the bottom of this post…along with a $500 giveaway! HOLLA!

Christmas Home Tour 2015 - Part OneI’ll be sharing the first half of our home all Christmas-ified today; our living room and kitchen. I’ll mostly just share photos with minimal dialogue. If you have any questions about sources, feel free to ask!

Christmas Tree 2015

christmas-tour-2015-16

This year, the tree was trimmed with a red & white checkered burlap ribbon and a felted ball garland. We opt for sentimental ornaments over a themed tree. Our tradition is to pick up an ornament on vacations or for any momentous occasion. This year we’ve added some sweet pink to the tree! :)

christmas-tour-2015-18I really love the mantel this year. It’s fun and whimsical! I used my sparkly bottle brush trees again, but also added our little deer friend.

Home Tour – Living Room

I’m pretty excited to share my living room with you today! We did a lot of work to this room and made a lot of changes last year that I haven’t blogged about yet. This space has made a complete 180 from the day we got our keys to this house. There are still a couple of small things I want to update or change, but overall…it is pretty much done. It’s my favorite room in the house, which is great since it’s the one we spend the most time in!

{I’m going to do my best to include sources, but feel free to ask if you have any questions!}

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseBefore we get started with the pretty pictures, you have to see some “before” shots to fully appreciate how far we’ve come.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room BeforeAs I’ve mentioned before, our home was nearly 20 years old when we bought it from the original owner. She had never so much as painted a wall. All of the flooring was still original and had seen better days. We have since replaced the old carpet with engineered wood floors in the entry, living room and kitchen.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room BeforeLovely, no? Who doesn’t want crystal fan pulls?

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room BeforeProbably the same crazy person that doesn’t want this lovely fireplace set. ;)

And this is what our living room looks like now {looking from the front entrance}…

Last Spring, I re-painted the walls Mindful Grey by Sherwin Williams. {Side Note: I’m not sure why it looks like the paintings above the sofa are hanging so high. They’re not that high in real life.}

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseWe also replaced our hand-me-down furniture with a couple of Ikea favorites – the Karlstad sectional with the darker grey slip cover and the Strandmon wingback chair. The rug is from RugsUSA, one of the best sources for rugs! They have several sales a year where you can score rugs for 50-80% off. This normally $1,000 rug was a steal at just $200. I love a good bargain! It has held up very well.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseThis chair is SO.COMFORTABLE. It is the perfect reading chair. The pillow cover is from H&M {they have seriously adorable and affordable home goods}. You might also notice that Macy felt the need to be in nearly all of my shots. She’s a ham, that one. :)

Even though we live in the tropics of South Texas, I am so happy to have a fireplace! It was on my “must have” list when house shopping. I’ve enjoyed it so much more since we added the mantel. I have so much fun decorating and redecorating it with each season and holiday.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseThe mantel is looking pretty simple now with antique, blue Ball jars {leftover from our wedding}, a Goodwill mirror and my chippy oval frame layered on top. I’ve been relishing in the post-Christmas simplicity, but I’m about ready to decorate for Valentine’s Day.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseI’m still loving our TV gallery wall! You can see past posts for how I hung everything and for sources. The media stand is from Home Decorators, but I painted the base of the cabinet with chalk paint.

One of my favorite parts of the living room is our record cart. I repurposed a Target bar cart to hold our portable record player and vinyl collection. This has become a shared hobby of ours. We love searching through bins of old records for a treasure.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseWe have a tiny entry way, that you can read about more here. Since it’s not quite wide enough for a console table, I have a small telephone table just outside the entry in a random corner nook.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseIt’s a great dropping spot for keys, and the drawer is useful for storing odds and ends like candles and the dog’s leash. The adorable gourd lamps were a Target clearance find. $8 a piece!

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseAs you can tell, I’m a bit globe obsessed. There are several more in the kitchen and guest room. The bird dish is from Home Goods.

Like a Saturday Home Tour : Living Room Eclectic living room, painted in Mindful Grey with pops of blue and turquoiseThe Time Life books stacked on the bottom shelf belonged to my Grandad. I love flipping through the pages when I visited my grandparents house. It is such a special thing to now have in my own home. Aren’t the fabric covers amazing?

The only things left to do in the room are painting the trim, replacing the sofa legs with something a bit more sleek and modern, and replacing the ceiling fan. I’d love to have a beautiful light fixture in here, but we just can’t go without our ceiling fans in Texas. I think installing a white fan would help it to disappear visually into the ceiling.

I’d also like to add a bit more color in here. Everything is very blue and grey, which is the perfect canvas for pops of color {as our yellow back door plays witness to}.

living-room-side-by-side

I’ll leave you with this side by side so you can see the difference a little bit of love and a few tweaks can make! We did everything on a budget and stretched it out over several years. Our living room is proof that you can have a home that you love without winning the lottery! :)

Have a great day!

Home Tour – Office

It’s back to reality for me! I took some time off to celebrate the Holidays, and then Tim and I took a spur of the moment trip out of town for a few days. It was nice to get out of our routine for a bit….but I’m happy to be easing back into it! :)

This past Fall, after 2+ years of blogging, I finally started putting together a proper home tour. So far, I’ve shown you our master bedroom and bathroom, the guest room {soon-to-be nursery}, hall bath and laundry room. After switching gears towards the Christmas frenzy, I’m restarting the tour today with our home office.

…or really I should say our office/craft/sewing/music/all purpose/everything room!

office collage

This room really is a hodge podge since it serves so many purposes. We have my husband’s desk area where he does some of his design work and keeps his sports memorabilia. That was one of those “things” when we first got married. He basically had a full shrine to Vince Young since it wasn’t long after he brought the University of Texas to a National Championship victory. We’ve pared down some of the VY accoutrements. ;)

office 7

Next to his desk is a collection of a few of our musical instruments. {Don’t be fooled – they are sorely neglected}.

office 5

As you keep turning and pass the closet that is packed to the brim with art and craft supplies, is our book case.

office 3

I also have my own little desk nook. I usually keep my sewing machine on the desk so I don’t have to haul it out whenever I need it. I have a couple of shelves for displaying cute things. The chair was a roadside find that I made over to fit the space. {The photo below is pre-carpet replacement, but it is more or less the same}.

office nook 1 The walls were painted “Techno Grey” by Sherwin Williams about 5 years ago. I was actually resistant to the color grey, but am now obsessed after my graphic designer husband talked me into it. It is good to have neutral colors {like white or grey} in a creative workspace.

office 13

We haven’t spent a ton of time or money on this room. We painted the room, stuck in our pre-marriage furniture and pretty much called it a day. It functioned very well for us for a long time, but our life has changed somewhat since then. It’s certainly not at the top of our priority list, but I would love to give this room a makeover. I would love to make it more organized and functional for our lives now.

office 14

Ideally, I’d love to create a faux built in desk along the main wall {where my husband’s desk sits now. Maybe something a bit like this. I’d love to add a lot of shelving above the desk unit where we could store books, tchotckes, and sports memorabilia. The extra workspace would be very beneficial to us.

Do you have your own dedicated work space at home? Is it a whole office/study or just a little corner you’ve carved out for yourself?

Have a great day!
