How to Make French Press Coffee

Another coffee related post from me. Are you shocked? ;)

There are just a few things in life that everyone really needs to know, and one of those things is how to brew coffee with a french press. I just couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t help you out in that area. It’s just what friends do!

How to Make French Press CoffeeBrewing coffee with a french press is actually really quick and easy. The flavors of the coffee are enhanced with this method of brewing. You’re going to end up with a more full-bodied cup of coffee from a french press than you will with a drip or Keurig.

How to Make French Press CoffeeYou will want to start with coarsely ground coffee. I like to grind my coffee fresh before brewing. I used my handmade Steampunk Coffee Mill from Uncommon Goods to grind the coffee. Uncommon Goods carries a wide variety of unique and handmade gifts. I would definitely keep them in mind for the upcoming holiday season! There is something for everyone on your list. You can feel good buying from them as they not only support the artisan community; but they pay their employees well, and support awesome non-profits that protect and support women and work to end hunger {among others!}. I like to pass on companies that do good to you. :) You can find more gift ideas here and here

How to Make French Press CoffeePut your kettle on the stove and start boiling water. While the water is boiling, put 4-8 tablespoons of the coarsely ground coffee into your french press {depending on how strong you want your coffee to be}.

How to Make French Press CoffeeWhen the water is ready, fill your french press. Stir in any grounds floating on the top so that they are all wet. Place the plunger and lid on the top and allow the coffee to steep for about 5-7 minutes.

How to Make French Press CoffeeWhen time is up, slowly push the plunger to the bottom of the press. You don’t want to push too fast, otherwise you’ll have scalding hot coffee spewing out. A lot of people think you have to push the plunger up and down several times, but you really only need to push it once.

Mexican Chocolate Latte {and a giveaway!}

I’m still dreaming of cooler weather around here, which has me thinking of all the tasty,  warm coffee drinks I’m going to be sipping by the fire. Oh! I can’t wait! :) Y’all know I love my coffee. I take it “knock you on your hiney” strong with a bit of creamer. I was excited to see that Coffee-mate came out with 2 new Latin inspired flavors – Abuelita┬« Mexican Chocolate and La Lechera┬« Dulce de Leche. YUM! I snatched those flavors up real quick and ran home to be my own barista.

Mexican Chocolate LatteAbuelita┬« Mexican Chocolate is a combination of silky chocolate and cinnamon — my two favorite flavors! Everyone is pumped up about pumpkin flavored drinks, but I can’t think of anything tastier than a Mexican chocolate Latte on a cool day.  To create my own latte, I began by brewing some espresso in my Moka pot. You don’t have to have a fancy espresso machine to have homemade lattes. You can also brew coffee at double strength.  Mexican Chocolate Latte I warmed up the creamer over the stove and then used my milk frother to make foam. I cannot live without this tool! I found mine for a couple bucks at Ikea, but have also seen them at World Market.  Mexican Chocolate Latte When the creamer and foam were ready, I poured the cream into my cup of fresh espresso. Hold the foam back with a spoon and then layer it on top of your drink last.     Mexican Chocolate Latte Isn’t that pretty? To make my latte even more beautiful and tasty, I decided to add a bit of garnish. You can never go wrong with a little whipped cream on top of your coffee! Especially if it is fresh. Oh my, yes! I also drizzled some chocolate syrup and sprinkled some cinnamon on top. This latte is truly decadent! A real treat for a chilly day. :) Mexican Chocolate Latte Mexican Chocolate Latte Now, we know that a beautiful mug can only enhance our coffee drinking experience…. so you ought to scroll on down and enter a fun giveaway! Mixed Berry Greek Yogurt Pops

Happy Friday, y’all!

We are officially in the midst of the dog days of summer. It’s the time of year that you have to wait a good 10 minutes after getting in your car to safely touch your sizzling steering wheel. And you had better not drive around town without a cold drink {I’m looking at you, Sonic Happy Hour!}.

This is the time of year that I start yearning for Fall to hurry on up! I know some of you are screaming at me to not rush summer on out of here…but I’m willing to bet if you’re still basking in the glow of summer, you’re not dealing with a heat index of 113 degrees like we are. It’s not even August yet and I want nothing more than to crawl into a dark, cold hole and wait for my precious Autumn to arrive. Anything to escape the hot swampy-ness that is South Texas! It’s life in the tropics, y’all.

But since I can’t do that and I have to, you know…go on living life like a normal, responsible adult…I’m enjoying some frozen treats to keep cool!

One of our favorites is a Mixed Berry Greek Yogurt Pop! These yogurt pops are simple to make, delicious, and healthy!

Mixed Berry Greek Yogurt Pop -- a healthy frozen treat!

All you will need to make your own yogurt pops is:

  • Plain Greek yogurt
  • Honey
  • Berries of your choice — I used strawberries and blueberries
  • Popsicle mold

You will mix 1-2 cups of plain Greek Yogurt with 2-3 Tablespoons of honey. The amount you use depends on the size of your popsicle mold. Once the honey is blended well with the yogurt, fold in your berries. I added the blueberries whole and cut the strawberries into smaller pieces.

Next, you will spoon the mixture into your popsicle mold.

Stick it in the freezer for a few hours until frozen. Enjoy your treat!
